Request for Proposal: Food & Beverage Operations

The McMaster Students Union (MSU) is exploring opportunities to partner with industry leaders to re-imagine campus food & beverage operations. Potential partners will have extensive experience in the food services industry, and will be able to provide a clear vision on how to support both the current and future needs of a diverse, 18-25-year-old demographic.

MSU food and beverage operations are a destination spot on campus, providing a best-in-class experience for our students. Potential partners are asked to provide a proposal to enhance and reinforce that position, while driving revenue to further support to student life at McMaster University. Key aspects of any proposal must include an emphasis on bolstering the student experience, ensuring great value to the student body, and guaranteeing student employment opportunities within each of the respective operational areas.

The MSU will provide successful partners with an unparalleled understanding of current trends, as well as access to key locations in the McMaster University Student Centre, along with a new state-of-the-art student life building (The Hub), slated to open in spring 2022. Further, the MSU will offer joint marketing opportunities, to ensure a concept gains access to the 26,000+ undergraduate student body, upon the return to campus.

To ensure transparency in the RFP review process, the Executive Board of the MSU has struck an ad-hoc Food & Beverage Committee to review all proposals. The committee has a mandate to:

  • Analyze industry trends including but not limited to other campus food & beverage operations
  • Review opportunities which ensure the short, medium and long-term viability, both financially and from a student enjoyment perspectives of the MSU food & beverage operations
  • Development of a set of recommendations to Executive Board
