OPT-OUT REIMBURSEMENT UPDATE – January 6, 2025:
Due to the Canada Post strike, the MSU scheduled a cheque pickup for Monday, December 9 until Thursday, December 13, 2024 from 10am-3pm in MSU Campus Connect for our original reimbursement timeline for the Fall.  The remaining cheques have been mailed out as of January 6, 2025, please keep an eye out for yours until the end of January. If you haven’t received your reimbursement by then, please email the Health and Dental Administrator, Victoria, to help you look into it.

Direct deposits were released to students on November 5, 2024. Please check all bank accounts in your name for your reimbursement. If you haven’t received your direct deposit, this may mean it was rejected (names didn’t match, transposed a number, etc) and a cheque has been be issued. These cheques are available for pickup at the main MSU Office in MUSC 201. Students were emailed on Monday, December 9 about pickup options.

If you opted out, and haven’t received your reimbursement at all, please make sure you check your email and junk mail folders to make sure your opt-out application wasn’t rejected. Rejected members had until November 15 to make any adjustments to their application, and everything will now be taken on a case by case basis.

The MSU Health and Dental Insurance plans covers full-time undergraduate students at McMaster University enrolled in 18 units or more. Coverage runs from September 1st to August 31st.

Please note: There is blackout period every year from September 1 until mid-October while waiting for the opt-out to be completed, and for the list of names from the University. Please hold on to your receipts and then you may claim them once the blackout period has been lifted. This also means that you cannot sign up for a profile with ClaimSecure until the blackout period has been lifted.

Through contractual agreements, the following McMaster students are also covered:

  • Midwifery Students
  • Commerce Internship Students
  • Undergraduate Medical Students

Part-time Students may opt into the MSU plan, and add their dependents. Please visit the MAPS website or MUSC 201 for more information.

Varsity Athletes should refer to their copy of the Varsity Students Coverage Information booklet for their coverage terms. For specific details, Varsity Athletes should contact the Ath & Rec Finance Office at the David Braley Sport Medicine & Rehabilitation Centre.

Graduate Students are NOT covered by this plan. Please visit the GSA website for more information.
