Nominations Are Open for MSU Speaker and Vice President Elections
Nominations for the MSU Vice President and Speaker positions are open until April 2 at 10:00am (EST). Those who wish to run for a position need only email speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca to become a nominee, and subsequently attend the Student Representative Assembly (SRA) meeting at 10:00am on April 2 (online via MS Teams). No campaign is required for any of the available positions, but nominees have the opportunity to present a platform to the members of the SRA.
The elections for all four available roles will be held by SRA over a period of two days, April 2 and 3. Any MSU member (an undergraduate student enrolled in 18 or more units) is eligible. This election process gives each candidate the opportunity to speak to their qualifications and ideas, after which Assembly members have the chance to question each of the nominees.
The MSU Speaker is a paid, part-time role, responsible for presiding over meetings of the SRA and General Assembly, ensuring they run smoothly according to constitutional procedures in a fair and equitable manner. The three Vice-Presidents (Administration), (Finance), and (Education) are full-time, one-year roles, that oversee the leadership of specific pillars, staff, and resources of the MSU. For more detailed information on the Board of Directors and VP responsibilities, please read the job descriptions available here.
To nominate yourself, simply email the MSU Speaker at speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca by 10am on April 2, and be prepared to attend the (virtual) SRA meetings of April 2 and 3. If you would like any documentation – such as a platform – circulated to Assembly members in advance, please ensure to submit your document(s) to assistant@msu.mcmaster.ca by March 29 at noon.
