The Maroons are a unique MSU service that works to connect the undergraduate student population to the McMaster Students Union and the rest of the McMaster community. As representatives of the MSU, we provide students with information, opportunities and resources to get involved with the various services and business within the MSU. We aim to be the carriers of Marauder spirit on campus, and within the community, through the promotion and organization of countless events to express school pride and unity.

General Scope of Duties

The Promotions Coordinator is responsible for the promotion of MSU events and Maroons specific events for all undergraduate students. In addition, the Promotions Coordinator is responsible for the creation of these promotional materials as well as the creation of promotional plans for Maroon events in partnership with the Public Relations Coordinator. The Promotions Coordinator will work closely with the Public Relations Coordinator throughout the year to ensure effective promotions for all Maroon events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Organizational and time management skills required
  • Graphic design experience is an asset
  • Videography skills; filming and editing of original content
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Skills to work independently and manage others
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with the MSU

Effort & Responsibility

  • Responsible for overseeing a Promotions Committee (3-5 General Maroons Representatives)
  • Responsible for assisting with designing promotional materials for the Maroons
  • Demanding hours of work required preceding and during events
  • Communication with MSU businesses, services and clubs
  • Responsible for maintaining an appropriate and positive image of the MSU

Working Conditions

  • Time demands may exceed stated hours of work
  • Heavy lifting may be required

Training and Experience

  • Previous experience with the Maroons is an asset
  • Participation in Maroons Executive training (provided)
  • Participation in McMaster Welcome Week Training (provided)

  • Personal computer
