Child Care Centre Teachers Assistant – Summer positions
The Child Care Centre is a service of the McMaster Students Union which provides educational care for the McMaster student community as well as the community at large. Our staff functions as a team to ensure that every child feels relaxed and secure in their environment. The staff responds to each individual child’s needs while being sensitive to social, cultural or developmental differences. Children receive verbal encouragement and praise to inspire self-esteem and positive behaviour.
The Teachers Assistant supports a group of teachers to provide quality care for toddler, pre-school, and school-aged children. The Assistant relieves teachers for their breaks, assists children during washroom and coatroom routines, and performs various housekeeping tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the center.

The students will help RECE’s with set up and implementation of activities – relief for breaks, getting ready for routines i.e. snack, lunch and rest time. The centre is an integrated program that supports student parents to go to school and community families to have quality educational care for their children.
The students will be supervised and supported by a team of Register Early Childhood Educators. Staff will mentor students in the methods of interaction, behaviour management and encouragement of children in an age appropriate manner. Students will be oriented and will review the centre’s Program Statement, Policies and Procedures prior to starting the job.
