The McMaster Students Union Child Care Centre is a service of the McMaster Students Union which provides play-based educational childcare for the McMaster student community as well as the community at large. The centre is licensed under the Ministry of Education and governed by the Child Care and Early Years Act of 2014. The program follows the ministry’s statement on programming and pedagogy using the four foundations: Belonging, Well-being, Engagement and Expression found in the document, “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years 2014”
Planning and preparing creative, nutritious and well-balanced meals and snacks for groups of toddler and pre-school children following Canada’s Food Guide and adhering to Public Health’s Food Handlers Protocols. The position includes, ordering/purchasing all food and kitchen supplies as well as all housekeeping duties related to the kitchen following the Policies and Procedures of the organization.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Food Planning
Plan menus that are nutritious and appealing to the children that meet the requirements of the Canada’s Food Guide.
2. Food Preparation
Prepare nutritious food safely within food handling guidelines. Prepare alternate options for children with food allergies or intolerances.
3. Food Purchasing
Order/Purchase all food and kitchen supplies to meet the needs of the childcare centre.
Ensuring the kitchen is properly maintained and sanitized using appropriate Health and Safety procedures.
Answers the telephone and takes messages as needed.
1. High School Diploma
2. Current First Aid Certificate, including Infant/Child CPR
3. Food Handlers Course
4. Follow Ministry of Education Covid-19 requirements
1. Courses in Nutrition/Menu planning as well as cooking experience are required.
1. Working knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide
2. Understanding of the Health and Safety Guidelines outlined in the Policies and Procedures of the organization.
May be exposure to contagious illness, weather extremes, heat from ovens, high noise levels, physical demands required lifting and standing for long periods.
-Lifting and carrying required daily (dishwasher racks, food supplies)
